RavensFire at Charlies Eatery and Pub
Can you believe that people can have as much fun the day after a holiday as the holiday itself? This year the RavensFire band played for several St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, with Saturday evening’s event at Charlie’s Eatery and Pub in Rochester. Several dozen of the band’s friends, new and old, as well as family members, joined Charlie’s regulars for traditional Irish and original music. We hope to join the crew at Charlies again soon!
Friends of the band joined in, some singing along to Danny Boy, others taking on Rattlin’ Bog and Barley Mow, two challenging cumulative songs. These two songs start simple, but add phrase after phrase to the verses, speeding up along the way. We enjoyed watching other people dancing, some did polkas and others danced beautiful Irish jigs. There’s nothing like traditional Irish music to get the feet tapping, sometimes enough to get people to the dance floor.
The week of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in coffee shops and pubs around Southeast Minnesota reminded us of our trip to the pubs of Ireland. The locals in Dingle, Macroom and other towns sang along, danced and cheered just like our friends at Charlies. Maybe it’s time to book another tour of the Emerald Isle?
Did you know that we captured the cover photo on the RavensFire CD outside one of our favorite pubs in County Kerry?
