December was a big month for the RavensFire band. The month started at the Wykoff Area Historical Society’s annual Christmas concert. That’s always a fun event, held at the beautiful St. John’s Lutheran Church. The band shared the program with a choir assembled especially for the evening by Elliott Grandall. After the concert, everyone gathered in the church basement for coffee and treats.
Later in the month the band played twice in the Shops at University Square in Rochester. Many thanks to all the friends of the band who stopped by and added to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign.
After Christmas, the band joined with the Absolute Theatre troupe for “Murder at Manchester Manor,” a murder mystery fund-raiser for the theater. Before the play started, RavensFire entertained the audience with traditional folk songs, and fun Christmas tunes like Jingle Bells.
To close out the month, we played at the Jive Mill, a small music venue in Rochester. The Jive Mill gave everyone in the full house a chance to hear and sing along to dozens of traditional Irish songs, popular folk tunes, and a few Christmas songs. The crowd enthusiastically joined in the clapping on Whisky in the Jar, and singing along with one of our favorites, Auld Lang Syne.
What a fun way to celebrate the end of 2017. Thank you to all the RavensFire fans for a successful year. Join us in 2018 for lots more performances. We’re already booking plenty of opportunities for you to see your favorite traditional band. It’s not too early to start thinking about St. Patrick’s Day!
The RavensFire Band is well known all around the area for their energetic performances, beautiful vocal harmonies, and skilled instrumentals while playing and singing their unique collection of lively traditional Irish, Folk, World, Americana and original music.
